A correctional officer in Southern Maryland is facing criminal charges of his own for allegedly stealing cash from an inmate, authorities announced.
A grand jury indicted Dayvon Maurice West, an officer assigned to the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, on theft and misconduct charges on Tuesday, June 23, according to the sheriff's office.
Prosecutors say the case stems from the booking of a woman who arrived at the detention center on Friday, Feb. 28, with an envelope containing approximately $3,640 in cash inside her purse.

A familiar comedy name is facing a serious legal spotlight far from the stage.
Carlos Mencia, 58, has been charged with 12 felony counts of state tax evasion after prosecutors said he failed to report $8.7 million in personal and corporate income from 2019 through 2024, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced in releasing the complaint arrest warrant.
