SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Thirteen-year-old Trottier Middle School student Meghan Ward was selected recently to join the international program run by the East Coast Selects hockey team.
The team, led by former Canadian Olympian Manon Rheaume, will participate in an international training development camp and the World Selects invitational in Stockholm, Sweden.
Ward, who has been playing hockey for eight years, currently plays for the Assabet Valley Girls Hockey Club in Concord, Mass. She was chosen for the international program at an annual tryout held in Saco, Maine on Jan. 1. More than 75 players from the U.S. and Canada were invited to try out for 17 positions.
“Meghan was superb on Jan. 1," said Girls Hockey Director Kathy Pippy. "She not only showed she has the skill to be a top hockey prospect but also demonstrated great leadership and passion on the ice."
Owned by Legacy Global Sports, East Coast Select Hockey is an elite program that seeks to give 12 to 16-year-old-players opportunities at the prep school, NCAA, junior and professional levels.
Ward is seeking corporate and individual sponsorships to participate in this international competition. For donation information, email to danward99@verizon.net or call 617-721-7457.
