Algonquin Sports Roundup: Gymnastics Wins League Title

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Here's a quick look at how the Algonquin varsity sports teams did during the week of Feb. 8-14.

Basketball (Boys: 18-1, Girls: 15-3): The boys beat Wachusett on Feb. 12, 59-42. A.J. Brodeur and Mike Stamas each scored 17 points. On Feb. 14, they beat Westborough, 60-50. Brodeur had 14 points, 14 rebounds and 8 blocks.

The girls beat Wachusett on Feb. 12, 52-42. Amanda Murphy scored 14 points. On Feb. 14, they beat Westborough, 46-33. 

Ice Hockey (Boys: 7-7-2, Girls: 3-8-2): The boys beat Marian on Feb. 13, 4-1. Alex DiPadua, Matt Tozeski, Will Dewsnap and Dylan Connelly all scored. The girls lost to Shrewsbury on Feb. 13, 4-3.

Gymnastics: Algonquin won the Mid-Wach league title on Feb. 11, beating out Marlborough, Shrewsbury, Hudson, Westborough and Wachusett Regional. The girls scored a team total of 144.8. In first place, Alissa Wood scored 37.8 points, while her teammate, Chloe Herczeg scored 37.6 points to earn second place.
