Algonquin Sports Roundup: Field Hockey Wins Four

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Here's a quick roundup of the Algonquin varsity games you might have missed this week.

Football (1-7): Holy Name (5-3) handed the Tomahawks their seventh-straight loss on Friday, 60-35. Though Stephen Roay rushed for 150 yards and scored three touchdowns for Algonquin, it wasn't enough to overcome Quron Wright's six touchdowns for Holy Name.

Soccer (Boys: 12-3-3; Girls: 13-2-3): The boys played some disappointing games this week. They tied with Leominster (5-5-7) on Tuesday, 1-1. They lost to Nashoba (12-3-3) on Thursday, 1-0. They lost to Westborough (8-7-2) on Saturday, 2-1.

The girls beat Leominster (3-14) on Tuesday, 6-0. Senior Amanda Shea scored two for the Tomahawks. Algonquin lost to Nashoba (14-0-4) on Thursday, 1-0. They beat Westborough (12-4-3) on Saturday, 2-0. Amanda Murphy and Michaela Horne both scored.

Field Hockey (12-4-2): Algonquin won all four games this week. They beat Milford (4-11) on Monday, 9-0. Senior Lauran Travers scored five goals for the Tomahawks, while Maggie Wraight, Emily Hart, Taylor O'Connell and Carolyn Sacco also scored. The girls beat Quabbin (7-6-3) on Tuesday, 1-0. They beat Leominster (9-7) on Wednesday, 3-0. They beat Wachusett (10-6-2) on Friday, 2-0.

Girls' Volleyball (15-4): The team lost both their games this week. They lost to Westborough High School (14-4) on Tuesday, 3-0 and to Shrewsbury High School (11-7) on Friday, 3-1.

Cross Country (Boys: 4-3; Girls: 5-2): With no matches this week, the team compete in the league meet at Ghiloni Park, Marlborough on Saturday. In the 5K, the boys finished third. Greg Palken finished third with a time of 16:57. The girls finished second. Kyra Shreeve finished third with a time of 20:53.2.
