NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Here's a recap of the Algonquin varsity sports games you might have missed during the week of Jan. 21-25.
Basketball (Boys: 11-1, Girls: 9-2): The boys beat rival Westborough on Thursday, 57-41. On Tuesday, they squeaked past Nashoba, 59-53. Sophomore A.J. Brodeur led the team with a triple-double: 20 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks.
The girls did not fare as well, losing to Nashoba on Tuesday, 38-33. Amanda Murphy led her team with 18 points.
Ice Hockey (Boys: 4-4-2, Girls: 2-6-1): Monday, the boys lost to Fitchburg, 5-3, despite goals by Jack Mullin, Matt Tozeski and Will Dewsnap. They tied with Groton-Dunstable, 4-4, Wednesday.
The girls suffered two tough losses this week. The first was against Woburn on Monday, 5-0. The second was against Franklin on Wednesday, 6-4.
Indoor Track: The boys beat Fitchburg on Wednesday, 51-40, with Algonquin sweeping the relays. The girls beat Fitchburg on Wednesday, 76-15. Maggie Kiley won the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.3 seconds.
Wrestling (4-3): Algonquin beat Hudson on Wednesday, 32-24.
Gymnastics (9-1): Algonquin beat Marlborough on Wednesday, 142.700-127.950. Alissa Wood placed first in the vault (9.4), bars (9.55), beam (9.5) and all-around (37.9) to lead the way.
