NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — After a two-day closure because of Hurricane Sandy, schools in Northborough and Southborough are expected to re-open Wednesday, Superintendent Charles Gobron confirmed Tuesday evening.

Gobron said the decision to open both towns' K-8 schools could change if power is not returned to all the buildings in time. (Update: As of 7 p.m. Tuesday night, all power has been restored to Northborough K-8 schools.)  A standard school closing notification will be made if that is that case.

Earlier today, about three-quarters of Northborough lacked power, according to National Grid. However, through the work of 25 repair crews and seven tree crews, the utility has reduced that number to about 15 percent as of 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, about 13 percent of Southborough customers are without power, according to National Grid.
