SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — After Jean Kitchen departed in June, Southborough welcomed Mark Purple as its new town administrator.

Purple, who formerly served as assistant town manager in Framingham and interim town administrator in Ashland, was chosen in August over West Boylston Town Administrator Leon Gaumond Jr. and Lincoln Assistant Town Administrator Anita Scheipers.

When they announced the choice, selectmen said they were particularly impressed by Purple's experience in pushing for economic growth while working to save money.

The Southborough Daily Voice is tallying the Top 10 stories of 2012 this week.
